Catalytic powders for the chemical industry

Catalysts that accelerate or initiate the reactions play a very important role in the chemical industry. Almost 90 percent of all production processes in this industry are based on catalysts. Without the presence of a catalyst the relevant chemical reaction would become very slow or may not get initiated at all. For this reason it is hard to imagine production processes without using catalysts.

The catalytic capacity is determined primarily by the properties of the powders. The catalytic behaviour is determined to a large extent by the type of surface, its characteristics and the effective components present there. One special field is the production of nanoscale, catalytic powders. The combination of catalytic powders and nanotechnology delivers powders with high reactivity simply because the active surface increases many times over.

We pioneered the production of customer-specific, catalytic powders on a commercial scale, thanks to our unique pulsation reactor technology. The thermal shock treatment of raw materials, in combination with extremely short residence times (≈ 600ms), produces highly reactive powders in the pulsation reactor. Besides oxides, mixed oxides and doped oxides can all be produced, yielding powders that exhibit extraordinary homogeneity.

As a part of joint projects with its customers, IBU-tec has developed exclusive catalysts for specific applications. Besides chemical and mineralogical composition, particle properties such as particle size or specific surface can also be adjusted.
